Raising children in Islam is a serious MATTER; the Muslim family is an important pillar in the society. The verses in the Qur’an order doing good to kids, because they are a trust from Allah…

“Save yourselves and your families from a fire whose fuel is stones and men…”  (Surah At-Tahrim: 6)

The Prophet (sallahu alayhi wa salaam) said: “Every one of you is a guardian over his flock and he is responsible for his flock.” (Reported by Buhkari/Muslim)

The Muslim Woman and Her Parents

Monday, March 11th, 2013

She treats them with kindness and respect (birr)

One of the main distinguishing characteristics of the true Muslim woman is her respectful and kind treatment of her parents.

Islam encourages respect towards and kind treatment of parents in many definitive texts of the Qur’an and Sunnah; any Muslim woman who reads these texts has no choice but to adhere to their teachings and treat her parents with kindness and respect, no matter what the circumstances or the state of the relationship between daughter and parents.

She recognizes their status and knows her duties towards them

From her reading of the Qur’an, the Muslim woman understands the high status to which Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) has raised parents, and that it is a status which mankind has never known except in Islam, which has placed respect for parents just one step below belief in Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) and true worship of Him. Many ayat of the Qur’an describe pleasing one’s parents as coming second only to pleasing Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He), and confirm that treating parents well is the best of good deeds after having faith in Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He). “Serve Allah, and join not any partners with Him; and do good, to parents…” (Qur’an Surat An-Nisa’: 36)

The Choice of a Good Wife

Friday, December 28th, 2012

Ibraahim ibn Saaleh al-Mahmud

Source: Winning the Heart of Your Husband
A good wife is the cause of happiness in this world. She helps her husband to obey Allah it, and offers him spiritual tranquility and peace. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: “Life is a pleasure and the best of its pleasures is a good wife.”[1]

Islam has ordered a man to find out about his future wife. He has to make sure that she is a good wife and that she practices all her religious obligations. If a wife knows nothing about Islam and does not meet her religious obligations, she will make a fool of her husband in front of people and spoil his life.

The Prophet – has insisted that a man should choose his future wife according to religious considerations because such a wife will be a help and support for her husband’s most important concern as a Muslim, that is, his religion.

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: “If Allah has blessed any of you with a good wife, He has helped him with half of his religion, so he should fear Allah with regard to the other half.”[2]

On the authority of Sa’d Ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet said: “Four things are the cause of happiness: A good wife, a large house, a good neighbour and a comfortable transport. And four things are the cause of misery:  A bad neighbour, a bad wife, an uncomfortable transport and a small house.”[3]

The Prophet – said: “The best woman among you is she who pleases her husband when he looks at her, obeys him when he orders her and is faithful towards him regarding her person and his property if he is absent.”[4]

The Prophet said: “A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. So you should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a loser.”[5]

How to be good to your children?

Ahlam Ali

Published On: 24/3/2012 A.D. – 1/5/1433 H

Allah (may He be Exalted) says: “And those who say: Our Lord! Bestow on us from our wives and our offspring the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders of the Muttaqûn (the pious).”

The previous Ayah included the qualities of high spiritual energy which seek high goals in regard to religion. It does not want you to be only a righteous person, but also wants you to be a leader to the righteous.

To me, I may be a good example for others in clothes, dealings with the people, and dealing with my husband, but did anyone of us ask herself: Am I a good example for others in regard to rearing my children? If I am not, so what should I do to be a role model? What are the means which help me achieve that? These are the questions which we are going to answer in the following dialogue with Iman Al Harby, one of the educational researchers and one of those who are concerned with the Muslim women’s affairs.

Order in Family

Amin Ahsan Islahi

Source: Role of Family in Socialistaion

Published On: 15/10/2012 A.D. – 29/11/1433 H.

Islahi likens family to the institution of state. A state is required to be headed by a person; a family is also required to have a head. It can be husband or wife, but cannot be both.

Islahi’s assertion is in favour of man. In his view, man possesses those qualities which are required for the custodianship of family. However, it does not mean that man is superior to woman in all walks of life.

There are certain areas where women are ahead of men. For example, man cannot take care of the children as can a woman.

There is an inherent difference between man and woman. Man has an edge over woman in some physical aspects. Any step in the direction of equating both has proved futile.

Islahi considers all such moves a war against God and human wisdom. In the modern times most countries of the world equate women with men.

Legal and constitutional equality does not mean that they become equal in all fields of life.

Cleanliness

Prof. Muhammad Ibn Abdullah Alsoheem

Source: Cultural Values in the Message of Prophet Muhammad

Published On: 13/10/2012 A.D. – 27/11/1433 H.

Cleanliness means purification. In Islam it includes all aspects of life, cleanliness of body, heart, speech, actions, food, drink, clothes and streets and suburbs; it is physical and moral purification. The most important of which is getting our hearts clean from polytheism. Allah says: “O you (Muhammad) enveloped in garments, arise and warn! And magnify your Lord (Allah)! And purify your garments. And keep away from ar-rujz (the idols)!” (Surah Al-Muddathir: 1-5).

These were among the first verses that were revealed to the Prophet (Peace be upon him), in which he (Peace be upon him) is ordered by Allah (Glory be to him) to purify his garments from filth and his heart from polytheism and not to approach whatever can lead to idolatry.

Teaching children how to receive Ramadan and fasting it

Teaching children how to receive Ramadan and fasting it
Muhammad Mustafa Himidah

Published On: 1/8/2012 A.D. – 13/9/1433 H.

Teaching children the fasting of Ramadan is one of the things which occupies the minds of parents. It is one of the difficult matters which people have to endure patiently in order to reach their goal of Ramadan. Therefore, we shall direct the parents to how to teach their children fasting and the acts of worship that are performed during that month through the following directions.

First, receiving the Month of Ramadan

Parents should receive the month of Ramadan with joy and happiness and speak to their children about this month in order to make their children feel the greatness of the Month. They should tell them that Muslims wait for this month every year because of its blessings, multiplication of good deeds, and the goodness of its nights. By this, we instill in the minds of children the rearing of the Pious Predecessors: Some of the Righteous Predecessors used to invoke Allah for six months to reach Ramadan then invoke Allah for another six months to accept from them the worship of Ramadan.

Systems in Islam – Family – The Appeal of Islamic Family Life

Family – The Appeal of Islamic Family Life
In Islam, considering the well-being of the “other” instead of just the “self” is a virtue so rooted in the religion that it is evident even to those outside it.  The British humanitarian and civil rights lawyer, Clive Stafford-Smith, a non-Muslim, stated: “What I like about Islam is its focus on the group, which is opposite to the West’s focus on individuality.”
Individuals comprising any society are tied together by related group bonds.  The strongest of all societal bonds is that of the family.  And while it can be justifiably argued that the basic family unit is the foundation of any given human society, this holds particularly true for Muslims.  As a matter of fact, the great status that Islam affords to the family system is the very thing that so often attracts many new converts to Islam, particularly women.
