All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and blessings and peace be upon Muhammad, seal of the prophets and messengers.

“If greatness of purpose, smallness of means, and astonishing results are the three criteria of a human genius, who could dare compare any great man in history with Muhammad?

“Philosopher, Orator, Apostle, Legislator, Conqueror of Ideas, Restorer of Rational beliefs…The founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire that is Muhammad. As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?”

Alphonse de Lamartine in ‘Histoire de la Turquie,’ Paris, 1854.

“People, listen to me as I explain to you, for I do not know whether I will ever meet you again in this place after this year”, he said in a strong and clear voice. The crowd, over a hundred and twenty-four thousand, stood in silence knowing that whatever was about to be said was of the utmost importance. The men were all dressed in two white garments, whilst the women were in their normal clothing. He continued talking, whilst sitting up straight on his camel. “Know that your blood, property and honour are as sacred as this day, this month and this city”.

It was mid-day and the sun was bright and hot. Yet the weather was the last thing on the minds of these righteous men and women. Their eyes were fixed on their leader and they were listening attentively to his words.

Are we true to the Holy Prophet’s Mohammad teachings?

This is the column by eminent Arab media figure and Editor in Chief of Saudi Gazette newspaper Khaled AlMaeena on Prophet Muhammad (peace  be upon him), published by Saudi Gazette today.

Not a day passes without some depressing news from one Muslim country or another. Either it is a terrorist attack in Afghanistan or the Syrian Air Force bombing its own people. Iraq continues to be hit with violence of the most gruesome kind. Mali now joins the list of Muslim countries facing internal turmoil and external intervention. People continue to be killed in Pakistan either in drone attacks by the US or in inter-sectarian strife. Why?

I think no one who reflects on the worsening conditions in the Muslim world can fail to ask these questions: Is this the community envisaged by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who was born on 12 Rabi Al-Awwal, and is this the world we would have witnessed if Muslims had proved true to their religion and had lived according to the guidance provided by their Prophet (peace be  upon him) and the teachings of the Holy Qur’an?

The Simple Life of Our Prophet Muhammad

Amr Khaled
Source: The Prophet’s Noble Character

If we compare the life of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) before his mission as a prophet and his life after he began his mission as a prophet, we will conclude that it is beyond reason to think that Prophet (Peace be upon him) was a false prophet, who claimed prophethood to attain material gains, greatness, glory, or power.

Before his mission as a prophet, Muhammad (Peace be upon him) had no financial worries. As a successful and reputed merchant, Prophet (Peace be upon him) drew a satisfactory and comfortable income. After his mission as a prophet and because of it, he became worse off materially. To clarify this more, let us browse the following sayings on his life:

Aa’isha, Prophet’s wife, said, “O my nephew, we would sight three new moons in two months without lighting a fire (to cook a meal) in the Prophet’s (Peace be upon him) houses.” Her nephew asked, “O Aunt, what sustained you?” She said, “The two black things, dates and water, but the Prophet (Peace be upon him) had some Ansar neighbors who had milk-giving she-camels and they used to send the Prophet (Peace be upon him) some of its milk.”[1]

Sahl Ibn Sa’ad, one of Prophet’s (Peace be upon him) companions, said, “The Prophet of God (Peace be upon him) did not see bread made from fine flour from the time God sent him (as a prophet) until he died.”[2]

The Prophet Muhammad’s Message of Peace

A major part of the Prophet’s mission was to bring peace to the world. One of the ways in which he strove towards this end was to attempt to convince people that all men and women, albeit inhabiting very different regions of the world, and different from one another in color, culture and language, et cetera, were in fact blood brothers and sisters. His message was crucial, for a proper relationship of love and respect can be established only if that is how human beings regard one another. To inculcate such feelings, the Prophet would preach to his followers, “You are all Adam’s offspring and Adam was made of clay.” And in his prayers to his Creator, he said, “O Lord, all Your servants are brothers.” The Prophet would exhort his followers to live in peace with their fellow men, saying, “A true believer is one with whom others feel secure,” one who returns love for hatred. He used to teach the believers that anyone who would return love only when love was given belonged on a lower ethical plane. The true believer never reasons that only if people treat him well that he will treat them well in return. He is accustomed rather to doing good to those who mistreat him, and to refrain from harming those who do him injury. The Prophet himself set the example. All his recorded words and actions reveal him as a man of great gentleness, kindness, humility, good humor and excellent common sense, with a great love for all people and even for animals.
