They will meet with destruction (Ghayy),\r\nexcepting the one who repents and believes and acts righteously.\r\n(Quran 19:59-60)\r\n\r\nIbn abbas (RAA) explained that <> here does not mean\r\nthat they completely abandoned prayers, but that they delayed\r\nthem to the end of their prescribed times. Sa'id bin Musayyab, a\r\ngreat Imam following the generation of the Companions,\r\nelaborated on this, saying: \"A person neglects if he delays the\r\nnoon prayer up to the afternoon prayer time, afternoon prayer up\r\nto almost sunset prayer time, sunset prayer up to evening prayer\r\ntime, and evening prayer up to morning prayer time, while\r\ndelaying morning prayer until just before sunrise. If anyone\r\ndies without repentance while continuing in this manner, Allah\r\nhas promised Ghayy for him, and that is a valley in Hell which\r\nis very deep and has foul food.\"<\/pre>\n
<\/p>\n
\r\nAllah Most High says:\r\n\r\nWoe to the worshippers who are unmindful of their prayer. (Quran\r\n107:4-5)\r\n\r\nSaad bin Abi Waqqas said: \"I asked Allah's Messenger (SAW) about\r\nthe meaning of 'unmindful,' and he replied: 'It is delaying it\r\n(the prayer) up to the end of its prescribed time.'\" (Bazar)\r\n\r\nWhile Allah calls such people <, they are lazy and\r\nperform the prayer very late. He has promised them <>\r\n(Wayl), which signifies a great punishment.\r\n\r\nSome say, \"Wayl is a valley in Hell, exceedingly hot, and that\r\nis the place for those who delay or miss the prayer, excepting\r\nthe ones who repent and correct their habits.\"\r\n\r\nAllah Most High says:\r\n\r\nO you who bleieve, let neither your wealth nor your children\r\ndistract you from the remembrance of Allah. And those who do so,\r\nthey will be the losers (Quran 63:9)\r\n\r\nThe commentators say: \"The 'remembrance of Allah' in this verse\r\nmeans the five daily prayers. If anyone is so busy in buying and\r\nselling, or with his daily work of earning a livelihood, or with\r\nhis children, that he cannot perform prayers on time, he will be\r\namong the losers.\"\r\n\r\nThe Prophet (SAW) said in this regard: \"The first thing which\r\nwill be judged among a person's deeds on the Day of Resurrection\r\nis the prayer. If that is in good order, he will pass the test\r\nand prosper, and if that is defective, he will fail the test and\r\nbe a loser.\" (Tirmidhi)\r\n\r\nInforming us about the inhabitants of Hell, Allah Most High\r\nsays:\r\n\r\n(The people in Hell will be asked): \"What caused you to enter\r\nHell-fire?\" They will say: \"We were not among those who prayed,\r\nnor did we feed the needy. We used to engage in vain discourse\r\nwith the vain-talkers, and we used to deny the Day of Judgement,\r\nuntil there came to us that which is certain (ie. Allah's\r\njudgement).\" Then no intercession by any intercessors will\r\nbenefit them. (Quran 74:42-48)\r\n\r\nThe Prophet (SAW) said: \"The convenant between us and them (that\r\nis, believers) is prayer, so if anyone abandons it he has become\r\nan infidel.\" (Ahmad, Ibn Majah, Abu Dawood, Nisai, Tirmidhi). He\r\nalso said: \"What lies between a man and infidelity is the\r\nabanonment of prayer.\" (Muslim)\r\n\r\nAllah's Messenger (SAW) is reported to have said: \"If anyone\r\nabandons the afternoon prayer, his deeds are of no avail.\"\r\n(Bukhari). And he said: \"If anyone abandons prayer deliberately\r\nhe has no claim upon Allah\" (Sunan).\r\n\r\nAbdullah bin amr bin al-As (RAA) said that the Prophet (SAW)\r\nmentioned prayer one day saying, \"If anyone keeps to it, it will\r\nbe light, evidence, and salvation for him on the day of\r\nResurrection; but if anyone does not keep to it, it will not be\r\nfor him light, evidence, or salvation; and on the Day of\r\nResurrection, he will be associated with Qaran, Pharoah, Haman,\r\nand Ubayy bin Khalaf (a great enemy of Islam from among the\r\nQuraish).\" (Ahmad, Darimi and Baihaqi)\r\n\r\nSome scholars have explained that the person who abandons prayer\r\nwill be raised with such a foursome because his neglect of\r\nprayer may be due to his involvement with his property, his\r\ncountry, his administrative work, or his trade, Therefore, if he\r\nwas involved with his property, he will be resurrected with\r\nQarun; if with his country, then with Pharoah; if with his\r\nadministrative work, then with Haman; and if with his trade,\r\nthen with Ubayy bin Khalaf, the trader among the unbelievers of\r\nMecca.\r\n\r\nMu'adh bin Jabal (RAA) reported Allah's Messenger (SAW) as\r\nsaying: \"If anyone abandons prayer intentionally he has no claim\r\nto Allah Most High.\" (Ahmad)\r\n\r\nUmar ibn al-Khattab (RAA) reported that a man asked the Prophet\r\n(SAW): \"Messenger of Allah, what action is dearest to Allah\r\nMost High?\" The Prophet (SAW) replied: \"Prayer at its proper\r\ntime. The one who does not pray has no religion. Prayer is the\r\nmain pillar of the religon (of Islam).\" (Baihaqi)\r\n\r\nAfter Umar had been stabbed, it was said to him, \"As-salat, ya\r\namir ul-mumineen!\" (The prayer, Leader of the Believers!) He\r\nsaid, \"Yes, truly! If anyone misses the prayer, he has no share\r\nin Islam,\" and thereupon he prayed while his wounds were\r\nbleeding.\r\n\r\nAbdullah bin Shaqiq (RAA) said that the Companions of the\r\nProphet (SAW) did not consider the abandonment of any good deeds\r\nto be unbelief excepting the abandonment of prayer.\r\n\r\nWhen Ali (RAA) was asked about a woman who did not pray, he\r\nreplied: \"The one who does not pray is an unbeliever.\" Ibn\r\nMasood said that the one who does not pray has no religion, and\r\nIbn Abbas said: \"The one who leaves off a single prayer\r\ndeliberately will find, when he meets Allah Most High, that He\r\nis angry with him.\"\r\n\r\nAllah's Messenger (SAW) said: \"When a person meets Allah after\r\nneglecting his prayer, he will meet him as if he had not\r\nworshipped him at all, nor done any good deeds.\" And Ibn Hazm\r\nsaid: \"There is no greater sin after polytheism than missing a\r\nprayer [That is to say, if one deliberately delays a prayer\r\nuntil its time has passed, although he was able to pray it on\r\ntime, without any valid reason which permits delaying it before\r\nits time.] and killing a believer without just cause.\"\r\n\r\nIbrahim Nakahi said: \"The one who has left off the prayer has\r\nbecome a disbeliever.\" Awn bin Abdullah said: \"When a person is\r\nburied, the first question which will be asked him will be\r\nconcerning the prayer. If that is accepted from him, his other\r\ndeeds will be looked at, but if that is not accepted form him,\r\nno other deeds will be looked at.\"\r\n\r\nAbdullah bin al-As reported Allah's Messenger (SAW) as saying:\r\n\"A person who conbines two prayers without excuse, enters a gate\r\namong the major sins.\"\r\n\r\nWe seek Allah's guidance and help, for indeed.
